PSP Hidden Poster: Infected

What everyone sees, but what they don't is on the opposite side.

No Nonsense Review: Tales of The World Radiant Mythology PSP

Tales of The World Radiant Mythology is a different kind of RPG and I'll let this video explain.

So with that out of the way, I agree it's a fun if not unusual RPG and worth at least trying out once.

PSP Hidden Poster: InviZimals

The front cover that everyone sees

But on the opposite side...

No Nonsense Review: InviZimals PSP

InviZimals is not a bad game, it is an augmented reality, creature-capturing, and creature battling game. Not unlike Pokemon Go. Except you need a "Capture Card"

and a bright red surface. BTW if you are going to print out the capture card you will need to cut out the white box in the center. The tutorial in the game is simple enough to follow and seeing Brain Blessed as a professor was delightful. But it all comes down if your into these kinds of games as they are not for everyone.

No Nonsense Review: Grand Theft Auto The Chinatown Wars PSP

With the countless versions of GTA out there who knew the one game that set the standard for the entire series started on the PSP. Still, with a top-down view of the older games, many things current GTA fans will find very familiar here. Missions, quests, even revenge plots as well as a Drug Market feature. Who knew taking GTA on the road would be so easy.

No Nonsense Review: After Burner: Black Falcon PSP

In your life have you ever come across a game and go WTF?!!! That is the way it was to me about After Burner: Black Falcon PSP. I have played the original After Burner on the SEGA Genesis and the arcade version and both are good games. But not the one on the PSP, and the only reason I can give it isn't that fun. Too easy sometimes, too hard others it's just below average.

No Nonsense Review: Ape Escape On The Loose PSP

Ape Escape if you played other versions or not is really a fun game that amps up the challenge as you go along. Capture an ape, get another new weapon and capture more of them. Think of this as a cross between an FPS and a game like Metal Gear Solid. But with no violence and a whole lotta fun.

PS1 & 2 Game Saves to PS3 & PSP

Ever want to just do something simple and it turns out even more complicated than you ever expected. That is exactly what I wanted to do is transfer some of my old PS1 Game Saves to my PSP. Which now thanks to the fact that the PS3 Memory Card Adaptor going for around $100 on eBay, not so very simple. To why this once $15 item has jumped so much in value is beyond me. If I could even borrow one for a week or two I would. But I am sorry to say I don't know anyone who even owns one. So how do you transfer saves without such a device?

It is very complicated, and really I am not joking. It starts out with you modding a PS2, so why do you have to do this? In order to activate the PS2 USB slots, which are unavailable otherwise. It seems this modding allows for more options with your Game Saves. If you have a FAT PS2 meaning one that will support a Hard Drive you can move your saves anywhere you want even to a USB Stick and then later to a PS3. I am sure you can also do this with the slim model PS2.

Have your favorite headache tablets on standby for this next paragraph.

Things get complicated again if you moving PS1 saves from a PS3 to a Modded PSP. The reason, why not all game saves, are the same. If you have a PS1 game from PSN installed on your PSP zero issues with these saves. But depending on the CFW and where you got those downloaded PS1 games. Those games may not be able to read official game saves, and you really won't be able to check this out until you actually do this. Really I wish I was joking.

One last thing you may have noticed I said in my title for this piece PS2 Game Saves. The exact same issue as the PSP except early model PS3s can play PS2 games, as well as modded ones. But the PS3 later model still running OFW can't. So if your PS3 can actually play PS2 games depending on both the model and if it's running CFW you may or may not be able to use your previous PS2 saves. Once again for the same reason I mentioned eariler.

New Feature: PSP Game / UMD Covers

I recently became aware of how hard it is to find covers for PSP games and UMD videos when I  discovered that 3 of the sites I normally use have since gone offline. So starting today within my older posts there will be a new addition the actual cover that you can copy off and print. But be aware that depends on if I have the cover in my own collection or can even find one online. As that has become recently more difficult. I did attempt to create a folder on Imagur containing these covers but despite the number of views, some covers did receive. I was forced off of Imagur do to negative comments. I plan on setting up such a site on Flickr, but more on that later.

But eventually, all reviews will hopefully have PSP covers alongside the review.

A PSP Cheat Device That Actually Works

This whole thing actually came about when I saw this disc on eBay for $5, after trying 2 different attempts namely Gameshark and Action Replay I wanted to see what I actually would get. When this arrived in the mail yesterday I admit I was a bit nervous to install this, because as you can clearly see no manufacturer is listed on the disc. I have a Vista laptop that I knew would work better with Win 2000 programs, and I admit I thought this could hide a virus. I will fully admit it took me 8 attempts at installing this, but what I found both delighted and very much surprised me.

It seems Pro Media Director was made by now-defunct Pelican Accessories back in 2005. Besides the software, it installed 507 Game Saves on that PC, for 129 games that I could transfer to my PSP. I am happy to say I had zero issues with firmware and the most amazing thing it worked, it even detected the saves already on that Memory Stick. The games, all the ones I tested not a single one had issues with those save files, and best of all the modded save files opened up areas in games I thought were impossible to open. For example, one save opened up all the tracks and cars in Ridge Racer PSP.

Now for something that still has me stunned it was in an effort to find anything on Pelican and it's Codebreakers brand that I came across Codetwink I am not sure of the people behind this as I could find nothing. But on the site, they not only have the saves but ones for games that the software did not include. A bit of warning you need to Pro Media Director software to convert these files into ones the PSP can read as game save data.

But I am very happy this worked and over time I will check how many other games I can download saves.

No Nonsense Review: Archer Maclean's Mercury PSP

Like they say on the box "Easy to learn, hard to master" is a good description of Archer Maclean's Mercury PSP. As with the later game Mercury Meltdown, you control a pool of mercury and you must complete various tasks to complete the levels. It's a fun game, but can be tough to play, and some like me will find some levels next to impossible. But still a very good game.

Action Replay MAX for The PSP in 2019

Recently I purchased an Action Replay MAX for the PSP, in addition to curious how it actually worked as I could find nothing out there. I wanted to see what it was all about.

First of all, there are 2 models one with a 64MB and 1 GB model. I purchased the 64MB version as that was the only one I could find.

Besides the fancy metal case for it what I got was this
Install CD for my PC
Media Manager for PS2 disc
USB to PSP Data cable
Instructions

I did find that the software easily installs both on Win 10 and Vista, and this is where my problems started. The software would not detect my PSP. I only found out later that this problem was caused by my PSP's firmware, which for the record is 6.61 and as it turns out the Action Replay Max will only work with Firmware no later than 6.30.  I had the same issue on the PS2 but more on that later.  This is when I found out what this software really did and I had to spend $12 to find out why. It downloaded PSP game saves off of the Codejunkies server. Which you can still do now on but only from GameFAQS and other sites minus the software. Also for the record, those game saves at Codejunkies are no longer available.

The Action Replay MAX software also features the ability to loaded photos, music and videos on the PSP. If you used a PSP for a while you know that adding both photos and music to a PSP is as simple as drop and drag. Videos are another issue, I found out that the Model 3000 actually requires some processing in order for a video to be added to a PSP. I can see this is a good substitute for Sony's Official PSP Media Manager as it is no longer available. As long as you have an earlier version of the PSP firmware installed.

Media Manager for PS2

The software really doesn't do much, you can manage what is saved on your PS2 Memory Cards. But also transfer saves between a PS2 Memory Card and a PSP, and no it cannot detect PS1 Memory Cards or even PS1 game saves transferred to a PS2 Memory Card they will be detected as corrupt data. But it can detect PS2 saves, might be a useful workaround for those seeking to transfer PS2 saves to a PS3 if they don't have a Memory Card to USB device. Like I stated earlier Media Manager did not detect my PSP I assume for the same issue on my PC.

Overall the Media Manager is interesting but it is far from practical even back in the day.

Tilt-FX PSP Accessory

Because the PSP fits nicely in a gamer's hands, it seems almost natural to want to tilt and move the device itself to control what's happening on-screen. Datel, best known for their "Action Replay" cheats, decided to fulfill that want with their Tilt-FX motion control device. Though it doesn't seem to have caught on widely, there must have been some demand for the product, as they not only made a PSP-1000 version but followed it up with a PSP-2000/3000 version. Interestingly, motion control has caught on recently with the big consoles and smartphones, and the PS Vita will have motion-sensing capabilities built in (and, no doubt, support for them from actual game developers).

No Nonsense Review: Shrek The Third PSP

I guess the best thing I can say is that Shrek The Third PSP is better than the movie. Really I am not trying to be funny I am dead serious. As for the game, it's an action adventure with some puzzle elements...that isn't horrible.

No Nonsense Review: Beyond The Beyond PS1

If you even looked at a video of this game you know why I am starting with another view.

It is to show both graphics and gameplay and also that annoying random encounter that game can be. In addition to what was said in that video review, I have to add annoying puzzles and areas that are really puzzles and they are very annoying. For example, going through a cave system to get to the final area of the game and falling through the floor almost at random. Really the puzzles you have no choice but to defeat makes this game twice and long. Also, the final boss is one of the easiest final bosses that I have ever played.

No Nonsense Review: Donald Duck Goin' Quackers PS1

When I picked up Donald Duck Goin' Quackers PS1 I was really expecting more than what I got. Quackbusters on the Sega Genesis (Which also features Donald Duck) is a great game and you figure later hardware, 3D graphics it should be better right? Wrong, not that Donald Duck Goin' Quackers is not a terrible game, it's just incredibly average. If you are expecting more look somewhere else, I could really play this game with my eyes closed, except for the areas I have to jump, almost if not quite a boring game.

Overall score 5/ 10
