No Nonsense Review: Toy Story 3 PSP

So why Toy Story 3 PSP. because it's one of the game I played the most on my PSP. I like it because it's easy, if you fly through games it isn't for you. But I love the exploration and collecting aspects of the game, You can either go straight to the end of the level or pick up every little collectible item some of which like the picking up the train tracks hidden throughout the very first level of the game. Which opens up little things in the hub world, in this case a model train.

I have to mention the DLC content, which adds levels to the mini-games. Which features The Aliens, Buzz Lightyear, and Woody. Personally, I like the Buzz Lightyear and The Aliens levels. Buzz Lightyear is just plain fun, it really feels like you playing as Buzz Lightyear. Battling the Evil Zurg, through some fantastic levels. The levels themselves are harder than the rest of the game, but they are fun. The Aliens are more like a puzzle game. Trying to move all 3 characters, through various obstacles to the end of the levels in the fewest of moves possible. Lastly, the Woody levels, which I am sad to say are more like dodge obstacles to get to the end of the level.

If you like easy games, with a collecting feature and believe me those items are not always easy to find. Toy Story 3 PSP for you.

UPDATE

Recently I purchased Toy Story 3 PS2 and discovered that the DLC levels I previously mentioned are included on the PS2 disc

PSP DLC Lost and Found #1

I am a HUGE fan of that handheld, and currently, there is little out there. With Sony and other companies shutting down their servers that use to support certain PSP games. It's really hard to find what else is other there for a favorite game. I am not surprised I see alternate servers already up, running on Custom Firmware which is the only way to access them. The same could be said at PSP DLC, and yes I am aware a lot of stuff was pay for a download. But since those servers are now offline an ever-growing number of what used to be Pay DLC is now available for free. The only real problem is finding what used to be out there.

This is the first of many posts

Please be aware any DLC downloaded from CD Romance will only work in a modded PSP

Platinum Crew Patch - Players who were members of Platinum Crew (a premium service dealing with DJMax) were given a game patch for Clazziquai edition that can be turned on or off, once in effect the Patch gives these effects:

Club Tour Season 2: This changes certain clubs, as in it changes its gameplay type, objectives and difficulty.
New Song Patterns: Harder versions of songs can be played, but it won't be show as an alternative pattern and will appear as a certain pattern in disguise (EX: Dark Envy 4B MX Style will play when the player selects Dark Envy 4B Normal Style as long as the patch is on).
8 hidden songs: 8 of the game's songs could have their O.S.T. and music videos unlocked without the patch, but the song itself can't be unlocked to play in Arcade mode. No Nonsense Review: Namco Museum Battle Collection PSP

On the surface, just a collection of 17 classic arcade games and 4 remixed versions of classic titles.

I know I could get into the description of all the games, but I won’t bore you with that. Just to post a list of them.

Galaxian (1979)
Pac-Man (1980)
King & Balloon (1980)
Rally-X (1980)
New Rally-X (1981)
Galaga (1981)
Bosconian (1981)
Ms. Pac-Man (1982)
Dig Dug (1982)
Xevious (1982)
Mappy (1983)
The Tower of Druaga (1984)
Grobda (1984)
Dragon Buster (1985)
Motos (1985)
Dig Dug II (1985)
Rolling Thunder (1986)

My personal favs are Mappy, Dig Dug, Xevious and Galaga.

In short, the remixes are

Pac-Man Arrangement
Dig Dug Arrangement
Galaga Arrangement
New Rally-X Arrangement

Pacman is fun. This one has bosses who as soon as you hit a power pellet explodes into mini ghosts which for a brief time you gobble up.

Dig Dug is interesting. The power up and the various levels make it a really good game.

Galaga is IMPOSSIBLE. There is no clear way to beat the bosses in this game.

New Rally X is pure fun. Oh sure it’s more or less the same as the original, but with better graphics. Which only improves things, and I think even today’s gamers will have fun with this one.

Preview DLC Lost and Found

This one honestly couldn't wait until the next post. This all began about 3 days ago when I was planning the next DLC Lost post and began to do some checking. To my surprise I found DLC out in the strangest of places, and some I thought lost forever was available. So as soon as I get that list I have of games with DLC, including Japan only titles,  good enough to post It will be.

Lost DLC #2

Looking for DLC check this site out.  It seems it has the Wipeout Pure add ons

I fully admit one of my favorite games on the PSP is Toy Story 3. Literally grown up on Sonic, and I love the collecting aspect to this game. It too has DLC, mainly a couple of Woody, Buzz Lightyear mini games and a Alien puzzle game. Which is more like getting your 3 aliens from point A to B in as few moves as possible.

With that said the Alien mini game is rather good, and faithful to the movie. The Buzz Lightyear mini games are worth the 99 cents each Sony wants for them. They are both are exciting and very challenging. I absolutely do not like the Woody mini games. There more you can beat them if you memorize all you have to do and frankly they are too easy.

Little Big Planet PSP, being taken off of the Sony store rather surprised me, as it is a very excellent game. I highly recommend getting it. Now for it's DLC which is gone off of the Sony store like the game, if you can find it saved somewhere brings new things to this game. Like when it's server was still up, you could actually download fan made levels. Which was could be accessed through a patch. I also heard it fixed a bug in the game, but I can not confirm this. What actually they had available were free stickers, you could place around the levels and pay outfits for your character. As well as the previously mentioned Fork Lift Mini game.

There use to be a video on YouTube which showed this God awful mess of the fork lift mini game which Sony wanted $5.99 to download. But it has since has been taken down. It really was horrible.

SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3

Has 2 add ons

Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK) Pack [PSP]

which is Download this pack to get your hands on an official KSK uniform and a heavy duty F2000 assault rifle. The F2000 is a formidable weapon that can be tailored for any mission or tactical situation: in the right hands, it can turn the tide of battle.

Special Air Services (SAS) Pack [PSP]

Download this pack to take stock of a complete SAS uniform and an awesome AS-50 BMG sniper rifle. The AS-50 is an unmatched anti-material weapon that can devastate tough targets at long range. Prepare to take out the enemy just like Britain’s finest!

The real irony of this, these add ons were once available to US owners of the game. But not now, you have to live in Europe and have a European copy of the game to get these downloads. From the Sony store there.

No Nonsense Review: Metal Slug Anthology PSP

So why so much if you hadn't played these games, they are downright fun. The original FPS in a 2D side scroller, with over the top everything, from weapons to bosses. I really love these games which in the collection from the original Metal Slug to Metal Slug 6. The only real difference is in Metal Slug 6 you can't save your progress. The game has to be played in its entirety all at once. Hell, you can make any of these games as difficult or as easy as you want. No continues to unlimited. They are pure fun!!!!

Oh, sure I could get into how these game depicts combat and saving prisoners. But why bother all the prisoners look the same, and these games are both fun and challenging all at the same time.

Hey if you're wondering if this game is for you, check out the 100s of vids on YouTube. But I say get it, you can thank me later.

No Nonsense Review: Discworld 1 and 2 PS1

So I am talking about 2 point and click adventure games...boring. Most of you might think, but these Discworld games are both very funny, and completely different. In fact next to Blazing Dragons PS1 it's the only 3 comedy games ever released for the original Playstation. Yes, I said comedy games.
That is no mistake, there is real comedy in those games.

Best example of this is the plot of Discworld. Your Rincewind, a below average wizard with below average skills. Who has dreams of becoming a yak. Yes, and that is made clear very early in the game. It seems the Arch Chancellor for Unseen University, where you live, wants you to gather the parts to make a dragon detector. For it seems a dragon, has been turning some of the citizens of your town in to ashes. Which is only Act 1 of this 4 act game. Which then leads you to be apart of the conspiracy to raise the dragon in the first place, you make an effort to free the dragon from their control. It is only when we get to the last act where the dragon threatened your life the real comedy starts.

This game is filled with Red Herrings, who actually makes an appearance in the game's final act. Clues are obscure and a walk through is a MUST. Then throw in a love sick male dragon, and as it turns out the rampaging dragon turns out to be a female in heat, combined with a love custard pie. Yes, Love Custard Pie. Makes for rhe weirdest ending ever in any game I ever played.

Rincewind Voiced by Eric Idle, and featuring the talents of Jon Pertwee, Ron Bryon, Kate Robbins and Tony Robinson. Each character even though their dialog might be limited. Is very funny, you will be laughing at almost every line.

Then there is Discworld 2, Death is missing. Oh sure people are dying but they are becoming the living dead. It is your job, you find Death, and get him back to doing his job. Even if you try and make him a movie star, become Death yourself. Or even battling a female giant with sheep bladders. Think I am joking, just check out the walk through on any site. It's really that funny/weird. Also like the 1st game, filled with obscure clues and a walk through really helps here if you get stuck and you will be.

Okay the truth both the games can be frustrating, if your not using a walk through. That is why I suggest one. But every character has something funny to say and the cut scenes are pure fun, take in the original game where you have to get this guy's belt buckle. To do it, you use an octopus, a pot of love custard, and a pot a potty. The reason you figure you out. Then in the second they recreate of sorts the stoning scene from Life of Brain.

The only thing I can add is check out the game play vids on You Tube and see if you like it. I been a fan of both games since they came out in the 1990s.

Oh I almost forgot, there is a 3rd game it's called Discworld Noir. It's a comedy detective game it only came out in Europe and can be found where other PS1 ISOs can be found.

Lost DLC #1

When we think of DLC we usually think were about to get ripped off. I fully admit in a lot of cases that is true. But you can miss out on some really good features. The one time available folk lift mini game they had for Little Big Planet PSP  wasn't one of them.

With Sony recently shutting down the store you once could access from your PSP it makes it very difficult to find some DLC, which will only run on Official Firmware. While others are just plain lost unless you find a Memory Stick with them saved on it.

Lets begin with one that bring you over 700 mini games in Hot Pixel which in itself is a weird title, with games more looking they belong on a Atari 2600 rather than a PSP.

As it turns out the official site is still up HERE just follow directions they are easy enough to install.

Next up is Wipeout Pure with it's 8 add ons which just about triples the numbers of tracks and vehicles available. Sadly it once was available but seemly no more.

Wipeout Pulse can be found here but only for European version of the game Here

I found a video that explains what was available

No Nonsense Review: Bust-A-Move Deluxe PSP

If you want a real challenge Bust A Move Deluxe is the right puzzle game for you. This version...is something totally unique.

At its heart Bust A Move Deluxe is a simple puzzle game, match bubbles, get 3 or more and they vanish...more pop really. You can bounce your bubbles off the walls to make those trickier matches. They also throw in objects you can't just pop away. Let me tell you it took me a couple of times to beat that round.

But add in 6 specialty bubbles that can do anything from making an entire color vanish. To blast your way through a part that you find a royal pain. The game is highly addictive fun.

I played Classic Mode, which is just 1 of 10 variations of the game. Some of which I swear would even give those who normally fly through games...real problems. Like one shot wins, land your bubble in the exactly right spot you win...otherwise you lose. Is impossible for me.

Not to say all of them are bad, Mix Em Up, where the bubbles randomly change colors...is fun. It makes more of a challenge. Then there is Time Warp, where your game either speeds up or slows down is also very fun.

If your still unsure check out the vids of this game on YouTube.

Custom Firmware vs. Official Firmware

I know a lot of you out there use Custom firmware, and there are a lot of great reasons to go with it. I am sure I don't have to tell you them. The number of apps are amazing, you can find literally anything, and I do mean anything.

Then there is boring old Official Firmware I can tell you there is at least 1 good reason to have a PSP with official firmware and that is the DLC. Because DLC will not run on custom firmware.

Then that leaves why go with DLC, a couple of reasons I will go in to details later and there is some really great as well really useless DLC. The best I found so far is Little Big Planet, it seems the game has bug where it can't be finished. There is a 34 MB patch that fixes it. As well as stickers and other fun stuff for free. There is pay mini game with a forklift that looks stupid. Then there is the Buzz Lightyear levels in Toy Story 3. If your any fan of the film, you will love these levels. Wipeout Pure, although not on Sony's site has dozens of extra tracks. Hot Pixel has more than 700 mini games. I can go on and on.

Me I have one PSP that is official and I get to enjoy all that stuff

PSP Camera

Officially On October 12, 2010, when Invizimals was released, it came bundled with a new, redesigned PSP camera, model PSP-450x, which is a 0.3-megapixel camera taking photographs at a maximum resolution of 640x480 and video at up to 480x272 at 30 frame/s. The PSP-450x requires Official Firmware 6.00 or later.

Is a fun little item to add to you collection, costing around $12. Although I would admit the quality isn't the same as todays camera's. But if your willing to play with it's graininess, you can take photos some people actually use filters to get.

No flash though and I would recommend keeping still for a couple of seconds after the image is taken, mainly because the image can get blurry if you don't.

Other wise a good camera, well made back in the day.

Photo taken with PSP camera
