Jampack Vol. 1

Both Jampack vol. 1 and 2 were the very first retail demo discs that Sony had made available at a cost of $4.99 and would later become The PlayStation Underground Jampacks. Beginning with this post I am going to cover these discs starting with Jampack vol. 1 all the way to PlayStation Underground Jampack Fall 2001 edition.

Action Replay MAX for The PSP in 2019

Recently I purchased an Action Replay MAX for the PSP, in addition to curious how it actually worked as I could find nothing out there. I wanted to see what it was all about.

First of all, there are 2 models one with a 64MB and 1 GB model. I purchased the 64MB version as that was the only one I could find.

Besides the fancy metal case for it what I got was this

I did find that the software easily installs both on Win 10 and Vista, and this is where my problems started. The software would not detect my PSP. I only found out later that this problem was caused by my PSP's firmware, which for the record is 6.61 and as it turns out the Action Replay Max will only work with Firmware no later than 6.30.  I had the same issue on the PS2 but more on that later.  This is when I found out what this software really did and I had to spend $12 to find out why. It downloaded PSP game saves off of the Codejunkies server. Which you can still do now on but only from GameFAQS and other sites minus the software. Also for the record, those game saves at Codejunkies are no longer available.

The Action Replay MAX software also features the ability to loaded photos, music and videos on the PSP. If you used a PSP for a while you know that adding both photos and music to a PSP is as simple as drop and drag. Videos are another issue, I found out that the Model 3000 actually requires some processing in order for a video to be added to a PSP. I can see this is a good substitute for Sony's Official PSP Media Manager as it is no longer available. As long as you have an earlier version of the PSP firmware installed.

Media Manager for PS2

The software really doesn't do much, you can manage what is saved on your PS2 Memory Cards. But also transfer saves between a PS2 Memory Card and a PSP, and no it cannot detect PS1 Memory Cards or even PS1 game saves transferred to a PS2 Memory Card they will be detected as corrupt data. But it can detect PS2 saves, might be a useful workaround for those seeking to transfer PS2 saves to a PS3 if they don't have a Memory Card to USB device. Like I stated earlier Media Manager did not detect my PSP I assume for the same issue on my PC.

Overall the Media Manager is interesting but it is far from practical even back in the day.

Tilt-FX PSP Accessory

Because the PSP fits nicely in a gamer's hands, it seems almost natural to want to tilt and move the device itself to control what's happening on-screen. Datel, best known for their "Action Replay" cheats, decided to fulfill that want with their Tilt-FX motion control device. Though it doesn't seem to have caught on widely, there must have been some demand for the product, as they not only made a PSP-1000 version but followed it up with a PSP-2000/3000 version. Interestingly, motion control has caught on recently with the big consoles and smartphones, and the PS Vita will have motion-sensing capabilities built in (and, no doubt, support for them from actual game developers).

No Nonsense Review: Shrek The Third PSP

I guess the best thing I can say is that Shrek The Third PSP is better than the movie. Really I am not trying to be funny I am dead serious. As for the game, it's an action adventure with some puzzle elements...that isn't horrible.

No Nonsense Review: Beyond The Beyond PS1

If you even looked at a video of this game you know why I am starting with another view.

It is to show both graphics and gameplay and also that annoying random encounter that game can be. In addition to what was said in that video review, I have to add annoying puzzles and areas that are really puzzles and they are very annoying. For example, going through a cave system to get to the final area of the game and falling through the floor almost at random. Really the puzzles you have no choice but to defeat makes this game twice and long. Also, the final boss is one of the easiest final bosses that I have ever played.

No Nonsense Review: Donald Duck Goin' Quackers PS1

When I picked up Donald Duck Goin' Quackers PS1 I was really expecting more than what I got. Quackbusters on the Sega Genesis (Which also features Donald Duck) is a great game and you figure later hardware, 3D graphics it should be better right? Wrong, not that Donald Duck Goin' Quackers is not a terrible game, it's just incredibly average. If you are expecting more look somewhere else, I could really play this game with my eyes closed, except for the areas I have to jump, almost if not quite a boring game.
